Marlborough Boys’ College Rowing will deal with complaints about MBC Rowing members fairly and impartially.
The parent/athlete/club member must present their complaint to the appropriate person.
To the MBC Rowing Chairperson for issues relating to rower/coxswain behaviour during training or via social media/digital communications
To the Camp Manager if the issue occurs during a camp or regatta
Complaints cannot be made anonymously
Any complaint alleging serious misconduct must be made in writing, although the incident giving rise to the complaint should be reported to the appropriate MBC Rowing Chairperson as soon as practicable
The Chairperson/Camp Manager will liaise with the Head Coach/Child Welfare on receipt of any complaint to ascertain if the matter can be resolved immediately
If the matter is resolved, the Chairperson will report to the Committee at the next meeting on the complaint and the resolution
If the matter is not resolved on behalf of MBC Rowing, then the Chairperson will refer the matter to the Committee for further investigation
The athlete(s) will be taken aside and addressed by the Coach. The MBC Rowing Chairperson and Committee will be informed on the return from the regatta. The consequence procedure will be managed by the MBC Rowing Chairperson and the Camp Manager. This progression is as follows:
The Camp Manager will issue a verbal warning
The athlete will be removed from a training/boat/race/regatta in consultation with the Head Coach
Committee/Coach/Parent meeting to discuss the rower’s future involvement on return from a trip where an incident(s) has occurred
The final decision to suspend or expel a member rest with the Chairperson and the Committee. Any decision to expel a member from MBC Rowing by the Chairperson must be considered and either confirmed or overturned by the full Committee at the next Committee meeting
Serious misconduct, for example, illegal drug taking, theft, sexual offences, criminal offending or behaviour that could bring MBC Rowing or Marlborough Boys’ College into disrepute, may result in instant dismissal
